My first day in London was all I've ever expected plus more. The day started out a little rough, with arriving at 6 am, getting our luggage lost, navigating through the tubes of London (equivalent to NYC subways). The tubes themselves were crowded, dirty, and they didn't provide a good first impression of the city, but as we made our way up the many steps to the bustling world above, I knew that any first impressions I had would soon be vanished forever.
As we first popped out of the underground tube station (the wrong station, might I add) my eyes went from the dingy walls of the tube halls, to the most magnificent architectural building I've ever seen. We came up at Regent Street, which houses some of the most high class fashion stores in the world. The winding street, lined with tall elegant white buildings, is just moments away from the apartment we're staying in. After getting settled in a bit, we headed down to Regent's Park where we explored its vast gardens that seem to go on forever and ever.
Everything in London seems so strange and unfamiliar at first, really as though you are on a totally different planet. The fact that they drive on the opposite side of the road, for starters, is always a funny thing to admire. I also find it odd that people seem to use public parks as their replacement to laying out at a swimming pool. Everywhere you turn in Regent's, you can spot a woman in just her bikini or a man in a Speedo.... weird right?
I'm happy to say that I met my dad for the first time today (without any tears!!!!). We met at a restaurant called The Honest Sausage, where we spent the next couple hours talking with my mom and getting caught up on the past. We then headed down the way a little to eat at a little ice cream shop and watch the paddle boaters. The day ended with Tapas for dinner and my first legal drink at a local pup yay!!
This first day has been so incredible and has left me anxiously awaiting whatever London will bring to me next. All the sights, the perfect mix of a bustling city without any annoying noise, and of course the fact of meeting my dad, has already left me yearning for my next visit. Your perfect, London, and I love you.
